REDBANK SCHOOL 1931

Taken after winning the highly prized 'Slater Shield' Competion, Pyrenees School Sports Association

Back L-R: Bob Potter, Len Argall, Tom Luscombe, Duncan Murnane, Charlie Pimm, Alice Meagher

Centre L-R Reg Argall, Dolores (Biddy) White, Stan White, Lindsay Burge, Kevin Meagher, Doris Potter, Minnie Irwin (?)

Front L-R Kathleen Pimm, Dave McDonald, Hughie Murnane, Laurie Murnane, Enid (?) McDonald, Winnie Potter, Leo Meagher.

Lindsay Burge is helping to hold the shield due to his very successful performances in this competition, which helped the school to take the shield home at the end of the day: 1st place in both the under 11 High Jump & Long Jump 1931. He was to goon to 2nd in the under 12 High Jump & 3rd in the Long Jump 1932, and 1st in the under 13 High Jump 1933, but I'm not sure if they managed to hold the shield for those years!

Not sure of the names on this one! I think Amy Burge is in the second row from the front, 6th from the left. The teacher (back row left) would highly probably be Mr F.J. (Frank?) Fiscalini... if anyone can identify any others I would LOVE you to email me! (Many thanks to Cathie Shelton for the photo)

Once again, not sure about who most are... and I'd love to know them all!
I think Kevin Meagher, Lindsay Burge 2nd and 3rd from left front row,
Alice Meagher 3rd from left centre, Reg Argall the tallest boy centre of back
row. Once again the teacher is probably Mr Fiscalini. (Thanks to Cathie Shelton for the photo)

Initially in the Avoca District Football Association, until 1922, when they came under the Mountain Creek Football Association. Redbank made it to the Grand Final in 1925, 28 and 30, but were defeated each time, they joined the Pyrenees Football Association in 1934 and beat Avoca in the 1936 Grand Final 17.12.114 to 13.10.88 (carn the Reds!!)

...not sure of the years of these two photo's, but it's likely that at least one of them was taken at one of these matches... very serious Redbank business!

Thanks again to Cathy Shelton for these two photo's. Thanks also to Kev Court for his wonderful info site on Victorian Local footy. More info on

Back row - Ned Meagher - Ted Grant - Fred Perry - Don Potter - George Burge - Con Meagher - Hughie Murnane - Bern Smith - Bob ?? - Geoff Luscombe - Percy Payne

Middle Row - Frank Burge - Dick Cudmore - Jim Irwin - Arthur Burge - Clarrie Burge

Front row - Colin Grant - Jack Horwill - Pat Sweeney - Gerald Sheales - Horace Argall - Len Stuchberry

George, Arthur and Frank Burge are brothers - sons of Edward Benjamin Burge. Clarrie is John Henry Burge's son, Donnie Potter married Ivy Burge, daughter of John Henry - both my uncles. All were born between 1899 and 1906, so would likely age this photo to between 1920-30.
